Last night’s exhibition opening event at Central European University's 'Open Gallery' (Nyitott Galéria) Budapest was a delight and a true celebration of street photography!
I was honored to see my own works included among the featured pieces, as part of a thoughtfully curated collection.

According to the press of BPF: Street photography is one of the most spectacular and inspiring styles in photography. Thanks to its popularity and dynamic development, it has now become a leading trend that not only documents reality, but also creates atmosphere from light, shapes, shadows and reflections.
The camera merely records, but reality can be shaped, this is where the power of communication lies.

However, what do we see if the image is free from distortion and ideologies, does not serve any influence, power, or underlying content, but simply documents? Street photography is the most creative tool for capturing the cityscape, which is also a mirror of local and global culture.
What we see if the images show the Hungary we live in and not an idealized world?
The photographers of Streetphoto Hungary do not purposefully set up a twisted mirror, they simply document their environment. The sometimes satirical, sometimes poetic end result is put together by the viewers, it means something different to everyone, the recipient interprets it through their own filter, without controlled content, freely, giving a colorful overall picture of the reality surrounding us.

The sequence of opening speeches were delivered by:
Flora Laszlo, Director, Civic Engagement, Arts & Culture Office, CEU
Szilvia Mucsy, CEO, Budapest Photo Festival
Gergely Karácsony, The Mayor of Budapest
The exhibition remains open to the public until 30. April, 2025, at CEU Nyitott Galéria / 11. Nádor st. 1051 Budapest.
